Noratec LLC operates SBK — Sister Brother Keeper, a personal safety application. This page describes the text messages SBK sends and how recipients consent to receive them.

01

Who receives messages

Only individuals an SBK user has personally designated as an emergency contact. SBK does not send marketing or promotional text messages of any kind, and does not share or sell phone numbers.

02

How consent is obtained

When an SBK user adds an emergency contact, they confirm they have that person's permission. SBK then sends that contact a one-time confirmation message:

“[User's name] listed you as their emergency contact on SBK, a personal safety app. If they signal for help and their circle escalates, we'll text you. Reply YES to confirm, STOP to opt out.”

A contact who does not reply YES will not receive alert messages.

03

Verbal consent script

Before an SBK user adds an emergency contact, SBK requires them to confirm they have asked that person directly and received permission. SBK provides the following wording in the app for the user to use:

“I want to add you as my emergency contact on SBK, a personal safety app. If I signal for help and my trusted circle decides the situation has escalated, SBK will send you one text message with my name, the alert level, and my last known location. You'll receive a confirmation text first — reply YES to accept. Most people receive only that one confirmation message; alerts are sent only if a real emergency escalates. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP at any time for help, or STOP to opt out. The terms are at noratec.org/noratec-terms and the privacy policy is at noratec.org/privacy. Are you willing to be listed?”

If the person agrees, the user adds them in the app and SBK sends the confirmation message described in the next section. If the person declines, the user does not add them.

04

What messages are sent

If an SBK user signals for help and the trusted circle they chose votes that the situation has escalated, confirmed emergency contacts receive a single message with the user's name, alert level, and last known location:

“SBK EMERGENCY: [name] triggered a SEVERE alert and their Circle voted to escalate. Last location: [map link]”

05

Message frequency

Messages are event-driven, not scheduled. Most contacts will receive only the one-time confirmation message.

06

SBK is not an emergency service

SBK does not contact 911, police, fire, or medical dispatch. It notifies only the people a user has chosen. In an emergency, call 911 directly.

07

Opting out

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. Reply HELP for assistance, or email info@noratec.org.

Message and data rates may apply. See our Privacy Policy at noratec.org/privacy.
